It is 28 km from the city of Corfu. Valaneio was built around 1400 AD. Valaneio is a small traditional village, with a long history dating back to the early 15th century.
The name of the village probably comes from the word Valanio used by the Romans for baths, as there is a view that in those years there was a Roman Bath on the shores of Mavrolimni, a small lake located today between Valanio and Kyprianades. Valaneio is famous for its musical tradition.
About 350 people live in the village and it is said that all 350 are involved in music. The choir of Valneio has been around for centuries and its fame goes beyond the borders of Corfu.
